CREATIVE STATEMENT

I have loved and enjoyed plants and flowers since childhood. Having grown up in Barbados, vibrant tropical blooms and lush foliage were a consistent backdrop to everyday life all year round. I think I drew my first floral composition at age 11. What I love most about floral illustration is its ability to bring vibrance, energy and beauty to just about any artwork, object or product. For me, the two most important qualities of a successful floral illustration are color and  movement - two elements that I often prioritize in my work.

Q&A

Which flower do you draw the most?
Almost all the flowers I draw are imagined! I love coming up with my own interpretations of blooms which are very loosely based on real flowers.

What grows in your garden?
My love for gardening really blossomed (pardon the pun!) in 2020 and I’m so proud of my plant babies! We have Daylillies, Irises, Hydrangea, Shasta Daisies, Echinacea, Astilbe, Lavender, Rose of Sharon, Ferns, Hostas… I could go on!

What do flowers symbolize to you?
For me, flowers symbolize joy and tranquility. I feel so centered and serene when I’m in the garden and I never fail to be delighted by Mother Nature’s palette.
