CREATIVE STATEMENT
My favorite thing to draw is a face. When working on a portrait or creating a character, I focus on highlighting the person's qualities and finding details that reflect their interests. Illustration allows me to emphasize certain features to achieve this. I like to reference as many photos of the person as I can, as having a range of angles and expressions helps me craft the best likeness. Most importantly, I listen closely to the client's requests. I've heard it said that a portrait is a collaboration, and I believe that—everyone should feel happy with how they are represented.

Which of your portraits is a personal favorite?
This is difficult! When drawing a person there is a lot of respect for the subject involved so I will say it is the next one I draw.
What is the most important feature to capture?
The attitude of the person.
What would your dream project be?
I would really like to do a campaign involving athletes. Something serial would also be fantastic, like a weekly or monthly editorial. After time, when you gather all these images together it's really powerful and satisfying to see a stylistically unified group of faces yet still with their unique personalities.
