CREATIVE STATEMENT
I’m Anna Wijnands, an illustrator from The Netherlands working for (luxury) brands in fashion, beauty and related areas. My interest in fashion illustration started out with a love for historical garments, growing into a passion for contemporary fashion illustration. My expertise in fashion illustration has developed over the years by working for brands like Dior, Louis Vuitton and Hallmark. For me, two very important aspects of the creative process are understanding the needs of the client and the purpose of the illustration before starting the creation of the illustration itself. By grasping these aspects, I can create an illustration which will have real value for the client.

Q&A
Which do you prefer: cozy or glamorous?
Glamourous! Although I also love to curl up on the couch and read a good detective novel in a cozy outfit myself, I prefer to paint glamorous ouftis. And I also enjoy wearing them if the occasion occurs.
What is your favorite fashion time period?
The 1950’s and 60’s. I adore the full elegant skirts and dresses of the 1950’s, but I also like the more edgy A-line dresses and miniskirts from the 60s. That era witnessed a true explosion of designer experimentation, expecially when it comes to fashion.
What brand do you admire most?
I have a hard time choosing between Dior and Alexander McQueen. I love de house of Dior because the current designs still really gasp the essence of the brand from the early years in the 50’s (elegant, feminine..) but in a real contemporary way. I love McQueen because many of the designs are romantic yet raw and edgy at the same time. It’s a difficult balance to obtain, resulting in stunning fashion.
