CREATIVE STATEMENT
My interest in children’s book illustrators began when I first picked up and studied Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day. I was enamored with the level of emotion the artist was able to convey on the page. Alexander’s frustration was practically palpable, expressed by both the story and the beautifully emotive artwork. It inspired me to create art that is not just aesthetically pleasing, but really connected with an audience on an emotional level. To create a really successful illustration I ask myself “what type of illustration will feel both relatable and personal to the individual?” and listen to my heart.
