CREATIVE STATEMENT
My interest in portraiture began as a non-fiction children’s book illustrator. My expertise in this niche developed from my interest in music as a soprano singer, plus drawing my own children exploring performing & visual arts. To create a successful portrait illustration, I believe it’s important to feel the joy of this passionate pursuit. For me, the two most important qualities of a successful illustration are conveying the joy in creating + a great collaboration with my art director. To maintain my skillset, I work with pen & ink, watercolor pencils, use Adobe Photoshop & Procreate, & conduct teaching workshops.

Which of your portraits is a personal favorite?
My portrait of the girl playing her kazoo. She is displaying the delightful magical thinking of children this age, which makes them so charming to we adults who are so stuck with realities.
What is the most important feature to capture?
I love to focus on the joys of the moment I am capturing.
What would your dream project be?
More requests to illustrate children exploring the joys of the performing and visual arts, unique to their experience.
