CREATIVE STATEMENT

My interest in food illustration began while serving as Illustrator of Exhibit Identification at the New England Aquarium. Editors from The New York Times food pages saw these aquatic illustrations and commissioned me to illustrate recipes for the Sunday food page, including still-life and step-by-step instructional imagery. This editorial work led to collaborations with cookbook publishers and well-known chefs (7 books). As a food illustrator, I enjoy cooking each recipe, arranging these inanimate objects, and then focusing on composition. These images are often presented on porcelain illustrated dinnerware I have created, or pieces inherited from my mother, an avid antique collector.

Q&A

What fruit or vegetable do you most love to illustrate?
Happy to illustrate all of them, enjoying the challenge of capturing their unique shapes, colors, and shadows, arranged in compositions.

What is your comfort food?
Well, I discovered a yummy, whipped Coconut  Cream in a can, I simply shake and squirt over organic fresh blueberries.

What is your favorite beverage?
A cup of hot water, for enjoying plain to wrap my hands around when I’m cold, or drinking favorite teas while I create my illustrations.
