CREATIVE STATEMENT

My interest in drawing animals and wildlife began when I moved to the Pacific Northwest in my early 20s and discovered my love of backpacking and hiking through the Cascades. I wanted to engage with the places visited by documenting the flora and fauna I encountered on my trips. My connections with the outdoors shaped my identity as an adult. After acquiring a graduate certificate in natural science illustration, and years of honing my practice, I now practice illustration full-time, working with clients on licensing and commission projects.

Q&A

What animal do you most relate to?
Crows. They are adaptable and can survive in the wilderness or in the cities. I also love the fact that they are constantly busy in action and don’t care how humans feel about them.

What animal is the most fun to draw?
Birds. I love drawing the intricate details of their feathers.

Which do you prefer: cats or dogs?
I love both, but I’ve owned dogs my entire life. We go backpacking and hiking together and I love seeing the world through their curious eyes.
