CREATIVE STATEMENT
My interest in art began from the moment I could hold a pencil. I would draw on walls, paper and occasionally scribbled on desks. I explored various traditional media and currently, I’m in love with digital painting. Over the years, my expertise in illustration developed when I studied Multimedia and 3D modelling. Having experience in 3d, my understanding of form and space improved significantly. As an illustrator who specializes in character design I nurture this focus by studying master illustrators, taking part in workshops and always observing people around me. What I love most about designing a character is capturing a person’s essence, their moment of awe, curiosity, calmness or sense of adventure. I think these emotions is what connects us to each other, it’s pure and awesome. This is why my most enjoyable project to work on would be illustrating for children’s books, stationary and packaging. To create successful illustrations, I believe it’s important to keep the main objective in mind to drive creative decisions. The target audience dictates the style and to evoke the right emotional response, I strive for the perfect blend of colours and lighting.
Q&A
Who's your favourite cartoon character?
My favourite cartoon character would have to be Iroh from Avatar the Last Airbender. He is a perfect blend of mischievous, funny, wise and loving.
What storybook do you remember from your childhood?
I fondly remember the Magicians Nephew because the idea of hopping to other worlds and talking to animals sounded like the best thing ever. Muddle Earth is another fantasy book I adored—absolutely whimsical, silly and funny.
What is your super power?
My ability to smile through tough times.
