CREATIVE STATEMENT
As an illustrator I'm in love with color and and texture, and culinary illustration is such a delightful way to play with both. Over the last decade I've spent a lot of time behind the scenes of my husband's televised adventures in cooking (he's Food Network personality and Today Show regular Mark Anderson of The Grill Dads), and I have a real appreciation for everything that goes into making food that's not only delicious tasting, but delicious looking as well. It's been so fun to bring that experience into my work as an artist. I think the best illustrations create an emotional connection, and good food does the same thing–so bringing those worlds together is a real joy.
Q&A
What fruit or vegetable do you most love to illustrate?
It's hard to pick a favorite, but I love painting oranges - maybe because I'm a native Californian, and oranges have so many nostalgic and literary connotations connected to that place.
What is your comfort food?
Warm rice with toasted sesame oil and furikake.
What is your favorite beverage?
Black coffee. The elixer of life.
