CREATIVE STATEMENT
My interest in illustrating flowers comes from 25 years designing wedding invitations. Over the years my appreciation for and my knowledge of flowers has expanded, having resided in five different states, each with unique climates resulting in different flora. I take photos wherever I go to gather my inspiration. Observing how sunlight ignites the beauty of a rose or how at sunset, warm light crossing over the ribs of a giant Saguaro enhances its dynamic presence. With each flower I illustrate, I find myself so intricately involved with its beautiful form and delicate details that it forever holds a place in my heart.

Q&A
Which flower do you draw the most?
The peony – I have an early childhood memory of playing hide and seek under the peony bushes in front of our house. I love their big, beautiful blooms, their frilly petals and delicate shades.
What grows in your garden?
Today I live in the desert where the air is clear and the flowers are vibrant. We have a 6ft tall bougainvillea hedge growing around our house, and flower beds full of succulents.
What do flowers symbolize to you?
Anchors of the heart. Flowers connect me to those I love, to places I’ve lived, and to all the special moments in my life.
