CREATIVE STATEMENT

Editorial is fast-paced and extremely collaborative. I enjoy working with art directors and editors to create work that enhances and supports an article. My background in middle-school kidlit illustration heavily influences my Editorial style, allowing me to create expressive characters, each with their own full personality. I’m a “more is more” type of illustrator; the goal I have with my work is to make each illustration alive and vibrant.

Q&A

Which publication does a great job at using illustrations?
Everyone knows The New Yorker has a really great lineup of very well curated work on its pages. But I've found that local papers that like to keep things analog do a great job with hiring illustrators. In my area, Edible East Bay uses artists for its publication, and it's fantastic!

What topic do you most enjoy illustrating about?
I really enjoy illustrating food, specifically people coming together over food and drink. It’s a scene that anyone around the world can relate to; even if the food or drink is unfamiliar, the feeling of coming together is a very human experience.

What magazine cover do you want your illustration to be on?
Oof - the range is WIDE. Thrasher would be super fun! But also, NatGeo and Nat Geo Kids (I remember seeing Tomer Hanuka illustrations on the cover of NatGeo and going, WOW, that is awesome).
