CREATIVE STATEMENT

I have always been an avid follower of fashion for as long as I can remember. As a child I would invent clothes for my dolls to wear, I guess things never change! I still love doing this, especially with my Barbie Collectables! I have been illustrating internationally in fashion markets for over two decades. Working with brands including Estée Lauder, LVMH, Ralph Lauren and fashion magazines/editorials such as Tatler, Condé Nast, Stella Magazine - The Sunday Telegraph, Vanity Fair and WWD, to name but a few. I have also worked in the children’s arena for American Girl on a fashion focused project.

Aside from my commercial projects I like to create personal works with fashion inspired scenes and taking inspiration from the latest runway event or cruise show. For me a successful fashion illustrator should be a fast and efficient worker, who can turn around projects quickly without losing the quality of drawing. A short deadline should provide energy and quick thinking whether that for an editorial or an event such as my work for LVMH House where I had to produce on the spot drawings for a design fiction workshop.

To keep my finger on the pulse, I follow many fashion houses on social media, and visit cities for inspiration. My favourite being New York, London and Florence. Sketching to hone my drawing skills is something I do to relax and focus. I do have a "slight" addiction to fashion glossy magazines! I especially love buying foreign editions when travelling overseas, making a heavy bag even heavier! I am not a light traveller.

Q&A

Which do you prefer: cozy or glamourous?
I love edgy fashion and unique styles. So keeping a sketchbook, and visiting NY and London has inspired me greatly for commissioned and private work alike. I find this fuels my work probably more than magazines as I love the reality of people watching, the  identities of city street wear is really exciting to me.

What is your favorite fashion time period?
My favourite fashion period has to be the sixties but I do love the "here and now”, seeing the latest trends unfold is fascinating.

What brand do you admire most?
My favourite brands are Prada, Dior, Chanel and Victoria Beckham, due to their sharp tailoring and iconic styles.
