CREATIVE STATEMENT
My interest in animation began when I was studying digital design at Vancouver Film School. When I saw how impactful motion design could be, I was hooked! I’ve now worked in motion graphics for nearly a decade. Over the years, my expertise in animated illustration has developed due to the number of projects I’ve taken on that require short form and looping animation. What I love most about animation is its ability to further the narrative of an illustration. Adding movement to an illustration allows the story to continue beyond just one frame.

Q&A
What detail makes an animation successful?
I’d say that it totally depends on the goal of the project! Animations with dramatic movement can be just as successful as animations with subtle movement, it’s all about what you’re trying to communicate.
What is your favorite animated film?
Nowadays, it’s gotta be Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. When I’m feeling nostalgic, it’s a toss up between Spirited Away and The Iron Giant.
What really brings an animation to life?
There is so much that goes into bringing an animation to life but in general, I’d say timing is the most important factor. That’s why every frame matters!
