CREATIVE STATEMENT
My interest in lettering began after I started exploring graphic design and working in publishing--brush pens and hand-drawn words were fascinating to me. Over the years, my expertise in lettering has grown from a word-a-day lettering practice to creating hand-drawn lettering titles for magazine covers, books, and teaching lettering to beginners. As an illustrator who specializes in lettering, I love to draw words and communicate text in both literal and illustrated fashion. What I love most about lettering is that it combines my two loves of words and drawing. To create a successful lettering illustration I believe its important to balance readability and playfulness, so color, quirky shapes, and shadows are my go-to lettering elements. For me, the two most important qualities of a successful lettering illustration are legibility and fun.

Q&A
What is your favorite letter in the alphabet?
I’m equal opportunity with the alphabet, I have no favorite.
What is your favorite quote?
I’m not sure it’s really a quote, but I try to remember the phrase “One thing at a time” so that I don’t bite off more than I can chew at once and don’t get overwhelmed. I have it on one of my tattoos on my arm to help me remember!
What writing tool do you use?
I use my Apple Pencil the most because I use it to draw, but I also like Pilot Precise V5 pens for note taking and such, or pencils for sketching.
