CREATIVE STATEMENT
My interest in drawing animals began as a child, of course! I loved to draw animals as realistic as possible. Eventually, as my expertise in illustration grew and developed, I found myself turning more towards playing with color and light with my animal paintings. It was fun to add a dramatic element of unexpected colors to my animals. As an illustrator who specializes in both picture book illustration and animal illustration, I have two different styles when it comes to my interpretation of animals and wildlife. I have a realistic non-fiction style, and a more characterized style. For me, the most important qualities of a successful illustration are light and movement, and I try to add as much of that into my work as possible.

What animal do you most relate to?
A bird! They are so dynamic and full of emotion. They're also hilarious!
What animal is the most fun to draw?
Again, birds! But if I had to pick another one, I'd go with a fish.
Which do you prefer: cats or dogs?
Dogs, all the way.
