CREATIVE STATEMENT
Hi, I’m Jeannine Schafer, aka Neenerbot, an artist and maker based in Austin, TX. I create colorful, expressive illustrations inspired by the magic of animated films and children’s books. My work celebrates personality, movement, and a little bit of mischief. Before focusing on my own art, I spent 15 years leading creative teams in tech and games at companies like Facebook and Disney. Today, I’m returning to my roots as an independent artist building on my previous experiences to bring big ideas to life in new ways.
Q&A
What was your favorite storybook as a child?
I loved a book called The Day Jimmy's Boa Ate the Wash and anything Richard Scarry. There was just SO much going on and it was so silly. I loved finding all the different things happening in the illustrations.
Which authors do you admire most?
Probably Richard Scarry, he had such a playful charming style full of silliness. I strive to be able to have that much fun illustrating!
What characteristics really bring a children’s book to life?For me, I love really memorable characters and small details in the illustrations. An artist's attention to detail can really bring a reader/viewer into the world that's being created, and this always delights me to see.
