CREATIVE STATEMENT

For years, my background in graphic design and children's book illustration shaped a style that was polished, clean, and unmistakably digital.

Lately, I've felt pulled in a different direction. With the AI zombie apocalypse heading this way, I wanted to create work that feels more human. I still work digitally, but I'm chasing the character of traditional pen and ink—loose, organic lines that wander, vary in weight, and embrace their imperfections. That's where humanity lives.

As a recovering overthinker, I've learned not to plan too much. I let the drawing lead, allowing unexpected lines and happy accidents to become part of the finished piece.

It's been a complete shift—from smooth, clean, highly commercial illustrations to work that's rougher, scratchier, a little wonky, and full of personality. By letting go of perfection, I've found a style that feels much more like me.

Highlights for Children uses so many illustrators. It's always so fun to see multiple artists being used in one place.

What topics do you most enjoy illustrating about?
Probably the things I love most in life—food and animals!

What magazine cover do you want your illustration to be on?
I mean, obviously The New Yorker— go big or go home, right?!
