CREATIVE STATEMENT
My interest in food illustration began early in my art career after I started to travel outside of my home state, Michigan. I loved experiencing different cultures through food and started to notice food was a commonality I could connect with anyone on. Over the years, my expertise in food illustration has developed due to my sketchbook practice. I’m always inspired by how colorful and textural fruits, veggies, and meals are, and I enjoy documenting them through playful sketches. As an illustrator who specializes in food illustration, I nurture this focus by traveling and always have a few restaurants I want to try mapped out. What I love most about food illustration projects is the range of creative assignments I get to work on—from recipes, cookbooks, ad campaigns, editorial pieces, and more! To create a successful food illustration, I believe it’s important to add your personality and style to each piece. For me, the two most important qualities of a successful food illustration is color and stylization. To maintain my skillset I’m always brainstorming my own food-themed projects and am currently working on a set of food-themed illustrations.
