CREATIVE STATEMENT

I'm a Canadian illustrator with 15 years experience. My interest in storytelling began during childhood when I'd come up with comics about wildlife having adventures! As an illustrator specializing in children's books and greeting cards,  I aim to capture honest everyday moments by spending time outdoors and taking part in my community. Clear communication with clients during each stage of a project is important to me. I enjoy the initial research stage of projects, and aim to find a style that fits best. To keeps my brain and arm limber, I work for local animation studios, and design greeting cards.

Q&A

What was your favorite storybook as a child?
I Unpacked my Grandmother's Trunk by Susan Ramsay Hoguet. Not only is it an educational alphabet book with new, unusual vocabulary, the thought of unpacking gigantic items like a pagoda, always made me laugh as a child.

Which authors do you admire most?
I'm currently drawn to my fellow East Coasters. Sydney Smith's poignant picture books with minimal text, and Doretta Groenendyk's vibrant adventure tales are go-to's at my local library.

What characteristic really brings a children’s book to life?
Unexpected compositions and hidden details in the illustrations. I personally love hiding animals within my illustrations whereever I can for little ones to find!
