CREATIVE STATEMENT
My interest in surface pattern design began early in life. I still remember the beautiful Laura Ashley wallpapers I had in my bedroom, playroom and bathroom. The lovely lilacs that seemed to be growing on my bathroom walls filled me with joy. My love for interiors grew as we bought our own home by the ocean, a 1927 Dutch colonial, and I started sharing interior ideas through my popular lifestyle site, Finding Silver Pennies. Designing patterns became an extension of creating art and foraging items from nature. My surface pattern designs are a mixture of whimsical watercolors and more graphic prints done with hand block patterns and mixing hand painted motifs with foraged elements in Adobe Illustrator. Many of my patterns are inspired by our New England coastal town but also our travels. I love how hand painted watercolor can show variation in texture and color. It feels like magic seeing the paint spread across the page and mingle with water, creating the final pattern. Watching paint dry is literally my favorite thing! When I’m not painting / designing you can find me on the beach with my family and two rescue dogs.

I absolutely love home decor and interior design and I enjoy creating patterns for wallpaper and fabric. I also really love stationery and love creating patterns for notebooks.
Where do you find your inspiration?
In nature. I live in a small coastal town on Boston’s South Shore and I find my inspiration on the beach and in the woods. Many of my designs are coastal themed.
What would be your dream pattern job?
My dream pattern job would be creating a bespoke wallpaper and bedding collection for a company that epitomizes New England style.
