CREATIVE STATEMENT
As a watercolor artist and illustrator specializing in animals and wildlife I’m deeply inspired by all the beauty in nature - the tiny and tantalizing colors of flora and fauna in the woods, the sea creatures who reside in the deep sea and those who frolic along the sand. The great blue heron who flies majestically above the marshes and the red cardinals who sing sweetly in our yard. Watching animals take shape from the splishes and splashes of my watercolor brush is deeply rewarding and also extremely calming. I’m a self taught watercolor artist and designer and founder of the popular lifestyle brand, Finding Silver Pennies, which I started in August 2011. I create my own products but also enjoy working with clients creating illustrations and designs for them. What I love most about painting animals is capturing their special personalities and adding a touch of humor or whimsy, like in my birthday animals series. My illustrations focus on spreading joy and lightness and are often inspired by my coastal town, Scituate, MA. I believe the two most important elements of a successful wildlife illustration are meeting the clients needs and capturing the essence of the animal and its soul within the painting. I love painting animals' eyes for that reason, capturing the light there. To maintain my skill set, I paint and draw daily in my sunroom studio and I go on nature walks in the woods and on the beaches with my husband and two rescue dogs.

Q&A
What animal do you most relate to?
Long haired dachshund. Perhaps it's their diminutive size (I’m 5 feet tall) and their fun attitude. I’m constantly sending my husband and sons Instagram videos of them, but two dogs is enough for us right now.
What animal is the most fun to draw?
I really enjoyed painting my cheetah party animal, I love painting the spots! I also love painting whales. They feel very calming to paint. Oh, and birds. I seem to paint many birds. Really I love painting all animals!
Which do you prefer: cats or dogs?
Dogs! We have two rescue dogs—Max and Poppy. Poppy is nearly 14 years old and is a black flat coat lab mix. She’s so soft like velvet and is the sweetest. Max is a black and white terrier mix and we named him after the Gladiator. He thinks he’s bigger and tougher than he is but he’s really a snuggle bug and studio dog.
