CREATIVE STATEMENT
Hi, I’m Charla! My interest in surface design began when I was a student studying at Savannah College of Art and Design, where I graduated magna cum laude, earning my B.F.A. and M.A. degrees in Illustration. After 15 years in the industry designing patterns for floor coverings, gift wrap, sewing fabric, and more, I’m now an internationally-published illustrator, professor, and surface designer. I love creating patterns that bring joy to others. When I’m not drawing, I love a good cup of coffee, rummaging at antique/vintage stores, and exploring nature in coastal Georgia.

Q&A
What industry do you most enjoy creating patterns for?
The sewing/quilting fabric and paper goods (specifically, gift wrap) industries are two of my favorites. I love seeing pattern used to celebrate life’s joyful moments, as well as the everyday (from a cozy pair of pajamas to a well-loved quilt).
Where do you find inspiration?
I find most of my inspiration in the beauty of everyday experiences, from a walk on the beach to a visit to my favorite local bakery. I also find inspiration in childhood memories and nostalgia.
What would be your dream pattern job?
I’d love to create patterns for premium children's apparel or an innovative wallpaper company!
