CREATIVE STATEMENT
Hi, I’m Charla! My interest in surface design (specifically, illustration for greeting cards) began when I was a student studying at Savannah College of Art and Design, where I graduated magna cum laude, earning my B.F.A. and M.A. degrees in Illustration. After 15 years in the industry designing cards for retailers such as Walmart and Dollar Tree, I’m now an internationally-published illustrator, professor, and surface designer. I love creating illustrations and greeting cards that bring joy to others. When I’m not drawing, I love a good cup of coffee, rummaging at antique/vintage stores, and exploring nature in coastal Georgia.

What is your favorite occasion to illustrate?
My favorite occasion to illustrate is everyday/birthday, friendship, thank you, get well, new baby, etc. I think we should all give cards for everyday occasions to celebrate more frequently and connect with others.
Which card do you still keep on your desk?
Thank you cards from my students are my treasures. They have a special spot on my desk.
