CREATIVE STATEMENT
Hello! I'm Chamisa, a children's illustrator creating picture books in the Pacific Northwest. My work tells stories in a playful, dreamy style. I have illustrated several children's books and am working on my author-illustrator debut, due out in 2025. I enjoy contributing to projects that celebrate compassion, hope and connection, and am interested in illustrating both picture books and graphic novels for kids.

Q&A
What was your favorite storybook as a child?
I loved anything by Jan Brett, and especially liked Annie and the Wild Animals. The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown also has a special place in my heart.
Which authors do you admire most?
I'm inspired by the work of Mac Barnett, Jacqueline Woodson, Mariko Tamaki, and many others.
What characteristic really brings a children’s book to life?
I think every picture book should have an element of surprise or the unexpected.
