CREATIVE STATEMENT
Anatomical studies combined with functional anatomy has always occupied a huge corner in my art exploration and education. I’ve applied the study of anatomy and it’s relevance to movement in
figurative work. Whether it’s by a drawing of a boxer throwing that knock-out punch or a dancer’s elegant gesture or pose. Both begin with it’s root in anatomical knowledge. In recent years, I have combined my love for anatomy with medical illustration in the legal world. It has been extremely gratifying, through collaboration with doctors and other medical professionals, to take complex medical information and translate that information into clear, truthful and engaging visuals.

Q&A
What has been your most rewarding commission?
Every medical illustration whether it is the brain, digestive system, skeletal structure and more, is immensely rewarding!
What weird fact have you learned from a commission?
That the ligament of Treitz isn’t actually a ligament, but a band of tissue (peritoneum) that connects and supports the end of the duodenum. Also known as the suspensory muscle of the duodenum, it has gone by many names over the years including the bi-gastric muscle Treitz. First described in 1853 by Dr. Vaclav Treitz in his publication on ”new muscle in the duodenum of man”.
Flash forward 172 years, surgeons and anatomists still rely on it as a key anatomical landmark!
What is the oddest thing you’ve ever had to draw?
An illustration completed years ago of morphing a drawing of
a knife cutting through a tomato into a knee operation.
