CREATIVE STATEMENT

My background is in design, and so my illustrations have a largely graphic approach, which I love to incorporate into my work in composition as well as bright, whimsical color schemes. My main source of inspiration was probably all of the 90's cartoons I grew up on, but I am also heavily inspired by mid century art and nature. My work aims to bring cheer and lightheartedness to the everyday, and so it was inevitable that my style would shine in the world of children's books.

Q&A

What was your favorite storybook as a child?
Goodnight Moon was my favorite as a child, and I read it to my baby boy now.

Which authors do you admire most?
Miroslav Šašek, Richard Scarry, and Mary Blair are my heroes!

What characteristic really brings a children’s book to life?
For very young children, I think color plays a huge role since it's relatively new to their vision. For older children, feeling heard or seen as the theme really resonates. For either? Animals, probably. Animals are so interesting to kids and adults alike.
