CREATIVE STATEMENT
In 2017, my passion for portraiture took off. I started a series of portraits of amazing Black women who were making a difference in their fields. Each portrait taught me so much about tenacity, courage, intelligence, and American history. It’s made me really appreciate the people who have left a big mark on our culture through their hard work and achievements.

Q&A
Which of your portraits is a personal favorite?
Charles Lathrop Pack. In 1917, he initiated the War Garden movement in the United States. His mission was to inspire Americans to cultivate vegetable gardens and contribute to Europe’s food supply during World War I.
What is the most important feature to capture?
I think two features are important in portraiture, the eyes and mouth. They animate the subject.
What would your dream project be?
To illustrate a graphic novel of people whose actions and deeds influenced American culture.
